- Fernand Crommelynck was born on November 19, 1886 in Paris, France. He was a writer and actor, known for Le carillon de minuit (1922), The Merry Monarch (1933) and The Novel of Werther (1938). He died on March 17, 1970 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Yvelines, France.

- Crommelynck's masterpiece was Le Cocu magnifique (1920), a 'lyrical farce' on the theme of a lover's jealousy. Staged with constructivist sets by Vsevolod Meyerhold - the first of their kind - the theatre play was such a hit that Crommelynck was able to give up acting and devote himself to writing.
- Crommelynck won international honours with his play Le Cocu magnifique (The Magnificent Cuckold). First produced in Paris in 1920, it was revived many times. It is one of the few French-language plays from this period to have retained its appeal.
