IMDbProStarmeterSee rank
After her education at a boarding school in the Lake District she studied acting under Sir Frank Benson in 1930. Her first acting roles were in Shakespeare plays, mainly playing boyish roles. She then joined the Nuneaton Repertory Theatre where she continued in Shakespeare, but now in leading roles, such as Cordelia, Ophelia, Cressida and Titania. On marrying in 1936, she gave up acting to raise her son and daughter. She returned to the stage after the war and continued her relationship with 'The Bard' by joining the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford--upon-Avon.
