Biography

Richard Cramer was born on July 3, 1889 in Bryan, Ohio, USA. He was an actor, known for Saps at Sea (1940), Captain of the Guard (1930) and Hell-Bent for Frisco (1931). He was married to Hilda. He died on August 9, 1960 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Heavy-set, balding and gravel-voiced, he acted on stage for 20 years before becoming a reliable villain in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s.

Often played Mexican bandits in westerns, although he wasn't Mexican.

Ugly, nasty Hollywood villain, memorable for menacing Laurel & Hardy, among others.

Richard Cramer appeared in 1951 in a color 24-minute Industrial film produced for General Electric entitled "Pipeline to the Clouds". The film was produced by Raphael G. Wolff Studios and illustrated the importance of water conservation. Cramer appeared as a man violating a water ban by washing his car.

He was in 4 of Laurel and Hardy's films including playing the judge in Scram.
