- Ian Coughlan was born on September 2, 1946 in Queensland, Australia. He was a writer and director, known for The Spiral Bureau (1974), The Restless Years (1977) and Ocean Girl (1994). He died on August 29, 2001 in Australia.
- After his death from cancer in 2001, Neighbours (1985) paid tribute to Ian, one of the show's long standing writers, by naming Libby and Drew Kirk's baby "Ben Ian Kennedy Kirk" after him.
