Gal Costa was born on September 26, 1945 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She was a music artist and actress, known for Foreign Land (1995), Bacurau (2019) and I'm Still Here (2024). She died on November 9, 2022 in São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Daughter of Mariah Costa Pena (died in 1993) and Arnaldo Burgos. Gal never met her father.

She's a singer.

Star of the 1960s Tropicália genre along with Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Her hit songs include Baby, Que Pena, Chuva de Prata and Divino Maravilhoso.

Was deemed the 90 greatest singer of all time out of 200 names chosen by Rolling Stone in 2023. She was described by The New York Times as "one of Brazil's greatest singers".

Changed her name legally to Gal Maria da Graça Penna Burgos Costa after being known as Gal Costa.
