- John Corigliano was born on February 16, 1938 in New York City, New York, USA. He is a composer, known for The Red Violin (1998), Altered States (1980) and Revolution (1985).
- Known for his haunting, dissonant, menacing & ominous pieces in his modern classical pieces.
- In 1979 was comissioned by the Metropolitan Opera to write a new opera for the company, the first Met comission in almost fifteen years. After twelve years of work composing, Corigliano's new opera, "The Ghosts of Versailles," received its world premiere at the Metropolitan Opera, in December 1991, with James Levine conducting.
