Biography

Harry Corbett was born on January 28, 1918 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, UK. He was a writer and actor, known for Sooty (2011), The Sooty Show (1968) and Sooty: Learn the Alphabet (2015). He was married to Marjorie Corbett. He died on August 17, 1989 in Child Okeford, Blandford Forum, Dorset, England, UK.

He was awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1976 for his services to drama. Prime Minister Harold Wilson intended the award to go to Steptoe and Son actor Harry H. Corbett who was a Labour Party supporter but the "H" got missed out of the name and the offer went to Harry Corbett instead.

His uncle was Harry Ramsden, the founder of the Harry Ramsden chain of fish and chip restaurants.

He and his brother Leslie Corbett married their respective wives at a joint wedding service at Guiseley Parish Church on 8 July 1944.

His brother Leslie Corbett provided the "voice" of Sooty's friend Sweep by blowing through a reed. His wife Marjorie Corbett later joined the cast, providing the voice of Soo.
