Mini bio

  • Canadian born Cooper was first seen as the host of the Canadian TV's news magazine, Ombudsman. He started Robert Cooper Films in 1977. It became Citadel Entertainment in 1988. The company developed The Return of Ben Casey, The Guardian, Florida Straits and the TV series Adderly. He later surfaced in the US and joined HBO Pictures. Where he oversaw Barbarians at the Gate, And the Band Played On and many other original movies. Later he took over as the studio head at Tri-Star (overseeing Jerry Maguire, Stepmom, & My Best Friends Wedding.) and at Dreamworks, where he made his name shepherding American Beauty. After his departure from SKG, he started Landscape Entertainment with Ivan Fecan of CTV. Landscape merged with Artisan pictures where Cooper was named co-chair along with Amir Malin. Malin & his sidekick Ken Shapiro ran Cooper out after they spent his money, and Cooper landed on his feet, creating a new Landscape Entertainment with a first-look deal at New Line. His company has 5 pictures set up there, and has Sleepover in production at MGM. He then produced the television series through its Landscape Television label, Medical: Investigation, which only lasted one season. Currently, he was in post production, signing a deal with FremantleMedia North America.
