Catherine Cookson was born on June 27, 1906 in Tyne Dock, South Shields, England, UK. She was a writer, known for Colour Blind (1998), The Secret (2000) and Jacqueline (1956). She was married to Tom Cookson. She died on June 11, 1998 in London, England, UK.

She also authored books under the names of both Catherine Marchant and Katie McMullen.

She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1985 Queen's Birthday Honours List and the DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1993 Queen's New Year Honours List for her services to literature.
