Robert Comeau
-Historian and professor at UQAM throughout his career, from 1969 to 2006, Robert Comeau was born in Montreal (Canada) in 1945. He obtained a Baccalauréat es Arts from Collège Sainte-Marie in 1964, a Licence in History from UdeM in 1967, a Master's in History under Maurice Séguin and completed his doctoral studies at Université Laval with Professor Jean Hamelin.

His main fields of research were the history of labour movements, political history and Quebec's national question. He founded the Hector Fabre Chair in Political History at UQAM and was its first holder. Unusually, this chair is jointly funded by Quebec's central labour bodies, the Mouvement Desjardins and the Fondation du Prêt d'honneur, which became the Fondation Maurice-Séguin in 2018, and where Robert Comeau was an activist for many years. He was also the main organizer of numerous colloquia organized by UQAM on «Leaders du Québec contemporain», with the unfailing support of Rector Claude Corbo. In 1972, Robert Comeau also co-founded the Regroupement des chercheuses et chercheurs en histoire du travail au Québec (RCHTQ), which until recently published a newsletter specializing in labor history. He also launched the "Études québécoises" collection at Éditions VLB. Over a 25-year period, the collection has published more than a hundred works. In 1992, in response to the lack of interest in political history among historians, he founded the "Bulletin d'histoire politique". He edited the journal for over 20 years. He was elected to the general council of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

Author of some fifteen works in collaboration with other historians, he has, among others, published a book on the mayors of Montreal. Robert Comeau was elected president of the Société Historique de Montréal (SHM) on June 10, 2018.
