- During the first ever "worlds strongest man" competition, he dislocated his knee during the refrigerator-carrying race. The scene was not edited for CBS and was shown and even instantly replayed. During an interview immediately following the race (while lying on a stretcher) he claimed that they told him it was broken but he said being a chiropractor he knew it was just dislocated.
- Appeared on the sleeve of Grand Funk Railroad's 1974 album "All the Girls in the World Beware!!!" with fellow-bodybuilders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane. Band member faces were cleverly superimposed on their muscle-bound bodies.
