- Robin Collins was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada where he obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) at the University of Victoria, the institution he later taught Directing for Film and Editing for Film at for the late Professor Brian Hendricks. He now lives in Los Angeles, California.

- Brion James of "Blade Runner (1982)" was an early mentor for Collins when they worked together on Chris Carter's "Millenium (1996)" starring Lance Henriksen of "Aliens (1986)" fame.
- Collins has modeled some of his villain characters after Ian Richardson's portrayal of Francis Urquhart in "House of Cards (1990)". Collins was coached by Richardson on the shared set of "The Magician's House (1999)".
