Biography

Monte Collins was born on December 3, 1898 in New York City, New York, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Campus Sleuth (1948), The Green Promise (1949) and Tangier (1946). He died on June 1, 1951 in North Hollywood, California, USA.

Collins left his Boston home at the age of ten to join a circus. He subsequently acted in minstrel shows, musical comedy and comic opera. He first appeared on screen as an extra with a film company in Portland, Oregon, in 1917, working his way up to supporting roles in westerns. He acted in comedies with Buster Keation and became a noted star comic in his own right with Fox and Educational from the mid-1920's.

In 1942, Collins had plastic surgery done on his nose and Jules White had noticed this and told him he was not funny-looking anymore. He was easily offended by this remark and one wonders if his surgery had sputtered his film career to a halt.
