J. Lawton Collins was born on May 1, 1896 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He was married to Gladys Easterbrook. He died on September 12, 1987 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

U.S. Army Chief of Staff (1949-1953).

Uncle of astronaut Mike Collins, (who, in July 1969, was the command module pilot for Apollo 11, the mission that landed the first men on the moon and later was the Director of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.).
