Biography

Art Clokey was born on October 12, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He was a director and writer, known for Gumby: The Movie (1995), The Gumby Show (1956) and Gumby Adventures (1988). He was married to Gloria Clokey and Ruth Clokey. He died on January 8, 2010 in Los Osos, California, USA.

Works almost exclusively in clay animation

He and his then-wife Ruth Clokey created Gumby, which made its debut on The Howdy Doody Show in August 1956 while Clokey was studying under Slavko Vorkapich at USC. The Clokeys also created Davey and Goliath.

Father of Ann Clokey and video producer Joe Clokey.

Adopted by Joseph Clokey, a musician, a composer and dean of music department at Pomona College in California, after being sent by his mother to a home for abandoned boys.

He was cremated at Los Osos Valley Mortuary and Memorial Park in its crematory. His celebration of life was held at Baywood Inn on January 23, 2010.
