Hugo Claus was born on 5 April 1929 in Brugge, West Flanders, Belgium. He was a writer and director, known for Vrijdag (1980), De verlossing (2001) and Het sacrament (1989). He was married to Veerle de Wit and Elly Claus. He died on 19 March 2008 in Antwerp, Belgium.
