His wife, Sybil Burton (Sybil Williams), was Richard Burton's first wife.

In 1965, he and his rock band, The Wild Ones, were the first to record the rock standard "Wild Thing", written by Chip Taylor, the brother of actor Jon Voight. As a discotheque band named The Wild Ones, "Wild Thing" was intended to be their signature song. A year later, it became a multi-million seller for The Troggs. The song was also adopted by Jimi Hendrix.
