  • Janet Choi is the Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment, and the General Manager of NYC Media, which owns and operates the City of New York's television and radio stations. As the Deputy Commissioner, Janet is the chief executive in charge of operations, strategy and programming for the City's five television channels and radio station, focused on a mission of providing the local community with informative, educational and public service-oriented programming. She has won several Emmys as the Executive Producer of programs during her time there.

    Just prior to her job in the City of New York, she was a Senior Producer at Channel One News, the Peabody award winning, national news program for young people. Between 2010-2013, Janet used her journalistic and communications skills in the nonprofit world, working as a consultant in strategic communications for a variety of global foundations. In 2010, she was a reporter for CBS News, after producing two seasons of the Emmy award winning series "True Life" for MTV News and Docs. Before that, she had her own series on KTLA News in Los Angeles, called "Your L.A. with Janet Choi" for four years from 2004 to 2008. From 2000 to 2004, She began her television news career at Channel One News based in Los Angeles where she produced several documentaries on international issues such as the drug wars in Colombia, the poverty inside North Korea and North Korean refugees in China. She appeared on CNN for her reports on Afghanistan, the WB for her coverage of the U.S. military post-September 11th, and on Today (1952) for her exclusive footage of North Korea. While she was in college, she worked as a journalist at Spin Magazine, Spin.com and Encyclopediabritannica.com.

    Janet Choi graduated with a B.S. from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
