Biography

Charles Chilton was born on June 15, 1917 in Bloomsbury, London, England, UK. He was a producer and writer, known for Oh! What a Lovely War (1969), Aces High (1976) and Songs for the Times (1964). He was married to Penelope Colbeck. He died on January 2, 2013 in Hampstead, London, England, UK.

Left school at age 14.

He was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1976 Queen's Honours List for his services to radio. He will be remembered for his conscientious approach to a broad range of subjects ranging from jazz to science fiction.

His father was killed in the First world war and lost his mother when he was 6 years old so he was mostly brought up by his grandmother.

Was nominated for a 1965 Tony Award as one of the producers of the musical "Oh, What a Lovely War.".
