- Donald Stewart "Don" Cherry was born February 5, 1934. Don is a Canadian ice hockey commentator for CBC Television and sports writer. Don is a retired professional hockey player and NHL coach. Cherry co-hosts the "Coach's Corner" intermission segment on the long-running Canadian sports program "Hockey Night in Canada". He has also worked for ESPN as a commentator during the latter stages of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nicknamed Grapes, he is a Canadian icon known for his outspoken manner, flamboyant dress, and staunch Canadian nationalism.

In what was widely seen as a public reaction to CBC's reluctance to renew Cherry's contract for the Coaches Corner segment of Hockey Night in Canada, the people of Canada voted him number 7, beating out Wayne Gretzky who only made number 10 on the list. Following this massive public endorsement for Don, CBC promptly renewed his contract.
