Stephanie was born in Hong Kong and made a name for herself as a Hong Kong pop star before breaking into the movies. From 1999 she has been making a name for herself in the film world with strong supporting roles in various movies. Stephanie is also a host on one of Hong Kongs most popular TV chat shows and has recently broken through in a prime time televison comedy in Hong Kong.

She clarified her father is not Ying Choi Cheung from Ming Pao Weekly interview on 11 March, 2025. When she was 41, she met her biological father who is living in the USA. They keep in touch.
