- Dave Chasen was born on July 18, 1898 in Odessa, Kherson Governorate, Russian Empire [now Ukraine]. He was an actor, known for Arizona Mahoney (1936), Rain or Shine (1930) and Millions in the Air (1935). He was married to Maude Martin and Theo Holly. He died on July 16, 1973 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- Vaudeville performer (as a stooge) with 'Joe Cook'. Best known for his Hollywood restaurant, started in 1936 at the request of Harold Ross, editor of "The New Yorker," who provided the initial $3500 investment.

- Chasen's started out as a barbecue shack in West Los Angeles called The Southern Pit. It quickly became popular with Hollywood celebrities, and by 1940 had moved to Beverly Hills with a new name, luxurious decor and a vastly upscale menu. After Dave Chasen's death in 1973, the restaurant was run by his wife, Maude. It closed in 1995, after 59 years in business.
- Although Chasen's was a fine dining establishment, its signature dish was the off-the-menu chili, a holdover from its BBQ shack days made from Dave Chasen's own recipe. Elizabeth Taylor had buckets of it flown to Italy while she was filming Cleopatra (1963) there, and chili-lover Walt Disney was also a devoted fan.
- Carol Burnett treated guest stars of her TV variety show to dinner at Chasen's after every Friday night taping throughout its run (1967-1978).
