In 2000, she was almost killed in a car crash when the car she was driving plummeted 30 foot down a bridge and she had to be cut from the wreckage. She spent four day in hospital with facial injuries and had to have part of her ear sewed back on after it was ripped off.

She is a two-time cancer survivor and has publicly stated her plans to end her life at a Swiss suicide clinic should she ever get a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Before that, she would celebrate her life with loved ones, ideally with a farewell party on a cruise ship. She said this decision was partly because of her having to watch her partner John Knight die from lymphoma in 1997..
