Biography

Tim Chappel was born in 1967 in New South Wales, Australia. He is a costume designer and actor, known for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), Miss Congeniality (2000) and The Dressmaker (2015).

In 2011, won a Tony Award for Outstanding Costume Design for a Musical (shared with Lizzy Gardiner) for the stage adaptation of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994).

In 2010, won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Costume Design (shared with Lizzy Gardiner) for the stage adaptation of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994).

At the time he was hired to do the costumes for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), he was doing his BA in fashion design at Sydney College of the Arts and working as a bartender at Sydney's iconic gay bar The Albury on Oxford Street.

It's been an interesting relationship [with Priscilla]. If I get run over tomorrow, as I lay dying in the street with a bus tire on my head, I think I'd go 'Wow! I think I actually added to the Australian identity.'
