- She and Lon had an increasingly rocky marriage and in April 1913, she went to the Majestic Theater in downtown Los Angeles where Lon was working and attempted suicide by drinking a bottle of the poisonous corrosive mercury bi-chloride. She survived but her main talent, a beautiful singing voice, was gone forever. They divorced a year later and she willingly gave Lon custody of their son.
