Born in Mumbai, Sudha Chandran hails from a Tamil-speaking family. Her father, K.D. Chandran, was an actor, and her mother, Thangam, dedicated her time to homemaking. Sudha has two older sisters, Jaya and Raji, and a younger brother, Vijay.

Sudha's childhood remained blissful until the age of 16, when a tragic accident altered the course of her life. The incident led to the amputation of her right leg below the knee. This adversity, however, transformed Sudha into a resilient and determined individual.

Initially uncertain about continuing her Bharatanatyam journey, which she had started at the age of 8, Sudha eventually realized that dance was an inseparable part of her identity. Overcoming physical limitations with the support of her family and friends, she learned to dance on her artificial limb, earning multiple national awards for her exceptional performances.

Despite the amputation of her leg below the knee in 1985 during the shooting of "Yaadon Ki Zanjeer," Sudha Chandran refused to abandon her passion for dance and acting.
