Marked by the heritage of cinema-vérité, and in particular by the work of documentary filmmaker Pierre Perrault, he co-directed La fille du cratère with Nadine Beaudet, on the journey of a mythical couple who changed the history of Quebec cinema.

- Champoux was survived by his wife Tina, his children Agathe, Léon, Barbara & Pénélope, his parents Ninon & Guy & his brother François.
- Champoux directed a number of documentary projects with the National Film Board of Canada, including Self(less) Portrait, in which 50 individuals shared personal stories in a free-form documentary style, which premiered at Hot Docs in 2014. Other NFB titles include the 2019 documentary Daughter of the Crater, co-written & co-directed with Nadine Beaudet, chemotherapy-focused documentary Sessions (2012) & short doc My Father (2000). His most recent documentary was CHSLD, mon amour (2020), which depicted the reality of residential & long-time care facilities for elders before the pandemic hit.
