Pramod Chakravorty
Pramod Chakravorty was an Indian film director and producer known for his significant contribution to mainstream Hindi cinema. He began his career as an assistant to filmmaker Raj Khosla, gaining valuable experience in filmmaking before establishing himself as an independent director and producer. He made his directorial debut with 12 O'Clock and went on to build a career spanning several decades.

Chakravorty established Pramod Films, a production house whose association with Hindi cinema dates back to 1958. Under the banner, he produced and directed several commercially successful films, becoming known for blending popular music, romance and mainstream entertainment. His notable films include Love in Tokyo (1966), Ziddi, Around the World, Tumse Achha Kaun Hai, Jugnu, Barood (1998), Azaad (1978) and Nastik (1983). Love in Tokyo also earned Mehmood a Filmfare nomination for Best Performance in a Comic Role.

Throughout his career, Chakravorty worked with several leading stars of Hindi cinema, including Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra and Amitabh Bachchan. His films were widely recognised for their commercial appeal, memorable music and entertaining storytelling.

Chakravorty is also credited with being the filmmaker who first signed Akshay Kumar as a lead hero for Deedar. However, Saugandh was released earlier and marked Kumar's first appearance on screen. The association remains a notable chapter in the early career of one of Hindi cinema's most successful actors.

Pramod Films continued its association with Indian cinema through subsequent generations. The production house is currently led by Chakravorty's grandson, Prateek Chakravorty, and has expanded its work across Hindi, Marathi and Bengali cinema.

Through his long association with the industry, Pramod Chakravorty made a lasting contribution to mainstream Indian cinema as a director and producer. His films, collaborations and production legacy remain an important part of the history of Hindi popular cinema.
