Joseph Castelo is known for American Saint (2001), The War Within (2005) and The Preppie Connection (2015).

Born in Brooklyn, raised in Jersey.

Graduated from Columbia University film school.

He was nominated at the 2005 Independent Spirit Awards for Best Screenplay for The War Within.

You envision them as mindless robots. That is certainly how suicide bombers are portrayed in the media right now. But if we don't understand what's inside their heads, how are we ever going to deal with them?

So much has been said after 9/11. We just felt we had to look at these issues from a different perspective. Everyone was walking around asking, 'Why did this happen? Why is it happening to us?' As filmmakers in New York, is there any subject matter more important than that?
