Biography

Morley F. Cassidy was born on 23 October, 1900 at Shelby, Iowa, the younger of two sons born to George and Amelia Cassidy. Both his parents came from English Canada, though not at the same time. His father, who was the son of Irish immigrants, came to the U.S. in 1889, while his mother arrived some four years later. His older brother, Waldron Alvin Cassidy (1895-1974), followed in his father's footsteps and became a doctor. Some years later he would help found the Omaha Hearing School for Children in Nebraska. Morley instead chose the path to journalism and attended the universities of New Mexico and Denver, graduating from latter in 1921

Morley worked on a number of American newspapers before accepting the position of editor of the Associated Press Special Service in 1930. Later he would work as a publicity agent for Huey Long in both Baton Rouge and Washington D.C. In 1939 he began working for The Sunday Evening Bulletin in Philadelphia and eventually became head of their editorial staff in 1960. Cassidy retired in 1965. During World War Two he served as a war correspondent for the Bulletin and was with American troops during the Battle of the Bulge and their subsequent drive into the German Rhineland. He was later honored with the US Freedom Award and the French Liberation Award.

Morley F. Cassidy died on 16 September, 1968 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He was survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Hunter.
