- In his acceptance speech for Best Actor at the 1993 Tony Awards, he thanked "my dear, dear Susan - this is for you. And I can say, death be not proud!". In a later interview with the New York Times, Carver said he was referring to his friend, actress Susan Wright, who had died along with her parents in a fire at Carver's Stratford Ontario home in 1991.
- Won Broadway's 1993 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for a "Kiss of the Spider Woman--The Musical." He was also nominated in the same category in 1999 for, "Parade."
- Currently starring as Gandalf in the world premiere of the 3 1/2 hour stage adaptation of Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. (February 2006)
- He was the son of Lois Helen (Wills), a clerk, and Kenneth Elmer Carver, who was in the lumber business.
