Her father was in the army and her parents went abroad when Anna was eight, leaving her in a theatrical school. She decided early on that she wanted to go on the stage. In September 1983, she replaced Stephanie Turner to become Inspector Kate Longton in Juliet Bravo. She married Christopher Morahan, the former BBC head of plays, and had two daughters, Rebecca, born in 1976 and Harriet, born 1978.
