Carter was a three-time Gold Glove winner and eleven-time All-Star.

Catcher for the Montreal Expos (1974-1984, 1992), New York Mets (1985- 1989), San Francisco Giants (1990) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1991).

Elected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame by the BBWAA in 2003.

He was the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player in 1981 and 1984.

Holds major-league records for most career putouts (11,785) and total chances accepted (12,988) by a catcher. Holds the NL record of 2,056 games behind the plate.

Elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, 2001.

Acquired by the New York Mets from the Montreal Expos for infielder Hubie Brooks, outfielder Herm Winningham, catcher Mike Fitzgerald and pitcher Floyd Youmans before the 1985 season.

Was released by the Mets in October of 1989. Later played with the Dodgers and Giants, and ended his career once again with the Expos.

Unlike most of his 1986 New York Mets teammates who were known for their wild lifestyles off the field, Gary was a devoted family man who reportedly never touched drugs and rarely drank alcohol. In a sad twist of fate, he was the first member of the team to pass away- dying at age 57 in 2012.
