Biography

When her husband was drafted in WWII, she continued as a solo comic, to great success. When he got out of the service, Howe realized the act was better without him, and he became a talent agent.

She and her husband, Buddy Howe, who was an acrobatic dancer toured Britain from 1936 to 1939.

She immigrated to the United States when she was 18 months old and raised in the Bronx, New York.

Mother of Helen Howe Tunick of Carmel, New York and grandmother of Susan Hamilton of Briarcliff Manor, New York and Andrea Ramos of Carmel, New York.

Her entertainment career started in vaudeville, as part of a dance act. Her comedic talent led her to join a comedy act.

In May 1948 when Israel had been declared a state at the United Jewish Appeal at Madison Square Garden in New York City: I've always been proud of the Jews, but never so proud as tonight, Because tonight I wish I had my old nose back.

I used to do that routine about my daughter being a hippie with the dirty sneakers and dirty blue jeans, but why a beard?...And you know people would actually come to me and say 'Does your daughter really have a beard?...No, I made her shave it, but I let her keep the mustache.

The thing that attracted me to my husband was his pride...I'll never forget the first time I saw him, standing up on a hill, his hair blowing in the breeze -- and he too proud to run and get it.
