Biography

Lucille Carra

Biography

  • Lucille Carra was born in Manhattan, and attended New York University, where she received a B.F.A. in Film Production and an M.A. in Cinema Studies. Upon completing her B.F.A., she received the NYU Alumni Association Award as Outstanding Woman Student at Tisch School of the Arts. After a colorful career in Japanese international film distribution and licensing foreign rights for Broadway productions, she developed Travelfilm Company, noted for deeply researched historical documentaries focusing on key works of major artists, such as Antonin Dvorak and Frank Lloyd Wright. Taking this approach, and working in a conversational, informal storytelling style, Carra directed and produced films using a blend of diverse landscapes, sound and music, supporting narratives based on analysis and oral history. Carra's films have been awarded support by the National Endowment For the Arts, the National Endowment For the Humanities, The Japan Foundation, The Hoso Bunka Foundation, New York Council on the Arts, among others; co-production and distribution partners include PBS, PBS Video, Czech Television, AVRO (Netherlands), RM Associates, Janus Films, The Criterion Collection, Voyager Laserdisc, and Alexander Street Press. The film collection, including The Inland Sea, Dvorak and America and The Last Wright, is represented in Australia and New Zealand by Ronin Films. By: Anonymous
