- Maria Carmi was born on March 3, 1880 in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. She was an actress, known for The Miracle (1912), Teresa Raquin (1915) and Der Weg des Todes (1917). She was married to Georges V. Matchabelli and Karl Vollmöller. She died on August 4, 1957 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA.

- When Carmi became a supporter of the Guru Meher Baba, her marriage with Prince Matchabelli ended in divorce. She remained an active follower of the Guru until her death. She lived as a poor person in India until she had to return to the USA for cancer treatment.
- After her divorce from Karl Gustav Vollmoeller in 1917, Carmi married a second time that same year to Prince George V. Matchabelli and became Princess Norina Matchabelli.
- She began her stage career at Max Reinhardt's acting school and belonged to his company from 1907 to 1909. From 1911 she was also engaged on Italian stages.
