R. Wright Campbell was born on June 9, 1927 in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He was a writer and actor, known for Man of a Thousand Faces (1957), Teenage Cave Man (1958) and The Masque of the Red Death (1964). He died on September 21, 2000 in Monterey, California, USA.

Film and television screenwriter. Often worked for the director Roger Corman. Later became an author of novels, featuring a jaded private detective known simply as Whistler.

Originated the phrase "La-La Land" as a nickname for Los Angeles, California

Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Younger brother of actor William Campbell.

Ex-brother-in-law of Barbara Bricker and Judith Campbell Exner.
