Biography

  • Charles "Charlie" Campbell started out as ADV Films' first in-house ADR audio engineer. While he attended University he apprenticed under Paul Killam who also came on-board after having worked with ADV before acquiring their own studio. Charlie sat behind the mixing board through many Anime classics, including Neon Genesis Evangelion, Blue Seed, Battle Angel, Golden Boy and even the live action giant monster classic Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (for which he and Paul composed and recorded the closing theme song for the English titles). He then moved to Austin in 1998 to help spearhead ADV's Monster Island Studios branch. There he continued ADR Engineering as well as Producing and Directing titles such as Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor, New Fist of the North Star, Mazenkaiser, and Blade of the Phantom Master.Cool, will do. After many storied years there, and after directing the dub of Korean "live action" hit No Blood, No Tears in 2004, he was summoned back to Houston. There he directed and produced the 105-episode Science Ninja Team Gatchaman dub as well as continuing the Ruroni Kenshin Samurai X OVA series, 009-1, Project Blue: Earth SOS, and many other titles. Now based in the DFW area, in addition to writing and directing, Charlie continues voice acting in scores of Anime, Video Game and Live-Action titles. He most recently directed Initial D Legend, The Life of Budori Guskou for Sentai Filmworks as well as Seobok for LazuArts. As of 2023 he is voicing Gran Torino in "My Hero Academia," Fujitora in "One Piece," Okuma in "Shin Ultraman {Live Action}", and Hakurou in "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" to name a few.
