Al Campanis was born on November 2, 1916 in Kos, Dodecanese Islands, Greece. He was an actor, known for Big Leaguer (1953), The Red Rowe Show (1959) and This Is Your Life (1970). He was married to Bess. He died on June 21, 1998 in Fullerton, California, USA.

General manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, 1968-1987.

Was fired as general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 8, 1987, two days after making controversial remarks regarding blacks in baseball on a ABC News Nightline (1979) episode that was supposed to pay tribute to the 40th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color barrier.
