His career led him to perform in theaters such as the Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the San Francisco Opera, the Grand Opera in Houston, the Lyric Opera in Chicago, the National Opera in Paris, the State Opera in Vienna, the Royal Opera House in London, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Municipal Theater in Santiago or the New National Theater in Tokyo, among many other stages.

Studied composition with Nino Rota and Luigi Dallapiccola and had Hans Swarowsky and Thomas Schippers as orchestral conducting professors.

In 2002, the French Ministry of Culture awarded him the title of Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Bruno Campanella was an Italian conductor and a distinguished interpreter of the Italian Opera at major opera houses including the Opéra National de Paris, La Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

Campanella studied at the Florence Conservatory.

He graduated in Philosophy with a dissertation on the philosophy of Buddhist religions.

On December 20, 2017 , in the auditorium of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou, China, he was awarded an Opera Oscar .

Bruno Campanella headed at the Metropolitan Opera of New York City in the 1999/2000 season "La Cenerentola" and "Il barbiere di Siviglia". Anthony Tommasini from The New York Times noted that the 1982 production by John Cox, with Thomas Hampson in the title role,was "essentially charming", and that Campanella, "led a supple and lithe account of the score".

He began his career in the late 1970s, and became recognised internationally as competent for Italian Bel Canto opera, recording works by Rossini and Donizetti.
