Songwriter ("Smiles"), singer and author who became an accountant after
his high-school education and then a singer of illustrated songs.
Joining ASCAP in 1924, his chief musical collaborator was Max
Kortlander. His popular-song composiions also include "Patches", "Tell
Me", "When I Came Home to You", "The Story of Old Glory, The Flag We
Love", "God Put a Rose in My Garden", and "You Planted a Rose".
