Biography

Gaston Arman de Caillavet was born on March 15, 1870 in Paris, France. He was a writer, known for The King on Main Street (1925), Tavasz a télben (1918) and La belle aventure (1942). He was married to Jeanne Pouquet. He died on January 15, 1915 in Essendièras Périgord, France.

Wrote several plays together with Robert de Flers.

Father of Jeanne Simone de Caillavet who was a woman of letters and French model born in 1894 and died in 1968 at the age of 74 years. She was the wife of André Maurois.

The family name was Arman. Members used their influence to add the grandmother's name Caillavet with a de. thus becoming Arman de Cavaillet.

His mother was an important lady friend of Anatole France. His maternal uncle married into the Alexandre Dumas family The family knew Marcel Proust who included certain of their characters as basis for people in "À la recherche...". Their son in law André Maurois was later a biographer of Proust.
