Jen Butcher

Jennifer Butcher (Jen B) has worked in the New Zealand Film and Television industry since graduating from The University of Auckland in 1995 and has been working as a First Assistant Director since 2000. She has over 500 credits across television drama, television commercials, short and feature films as well as music clips and documentaries and live broadcast events. She has also assisted many local and international producers with pre-financing and pre-production budgeting script breakdowns and schedule reports using either Movie Magic Scheduling, Fuzzlecheck and Cinapse.
Jen is Fully COVID19 Vaccinated (Pfizer / BioNTech 2 Doses + Boosters). She holds a current First Aid and Mental Health Frist Aid certificates, Firearms Licence, Boatmaster Certificate, Restricted Radio Telephone Operators Licence, (Marine), and holds Mountaineering, Skiing, and Advanced Driving qualifications - all useful additions for working in New Zealand's varied film locations and environments.
Jen is a past Chair of the Auckland Committee of the New Zealand Film & Video Technicians Guild and is a past Guild National Executive Board member. She has also served as an Advisory Board member to Screen Auckland. She is a current member of WIFT NZ, and an associate member of NZCS (NZ Cinematographers Society). She regularly guest lectures (on the art and science of Assistant Directing) for the Masters program of the University of Auckland Centre for Film, TV & Media Studies, South Seas Film School, and The New Zealand Film Academy.
