Jimmy Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi and grew up living beside the the Gulf of Mexico. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi he worked his way to success in the music industry. His hits in the 1970s including "Margaritaville" and "Come Monday". He struck a chord and helped to build a huge fan-base of all ages over the decades. Now married with three kids, Buffett loves fishing, flying and world travel. Buffett is also the author of numerous books including the bestselling "A Pirate Looks At Fifty" and has added movies to his repertoire as co-producer and co-star of an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen's novel Hoot (2006).

Did extensive work with environmental groups in Florida and the Caribbean.
Of his own songs Buffet was most proud of "He Went to Paris", "Death of an Unpopular Poet", "Come Monday", "A Pirate Looks at Forty", "Nautical Wheelers", "Son of a Son of a Sailor", "Sending the Old Man Home", "Twelve Volt Man" and "Distantly in Love".

I have pretty much surrounded myself with Gulf Coast influences for a long time, and... if you listen to those songs, I think it's pretty much in there.
I'm inspired by people who keep on rolling, no matter their age. I've talked recently with Harry Belafonte and with Mose Allison, two musicians who continue to enjoy performing and life. Quitting doesn't enter my mind.
My mother insisted that her children read. To describe my scarce leisure time in today's terms, I always default to reading. It didn't hurt that I came from a Gulf Coast storytelling tradition. I went to the Caribbean because my grandfather sang calypso songs.
Humor has bailed me out of more tight situations than I can think of. If you go with your instincts and keep your humor, creativity follows. With luck, success comes, too.
