Biography

Jack Buetel was born on September 5, 1917 in Dallas, Texas, USA. He was an actor, known for The Outlaw (1943), Best of the Badmen (1951) and Jesse James' Women (1954). He was married to Joann Jensen, Gloria Jean Bailey, Jill Meredith and Cereatha Browning. He died on June 27, 1989 in Portland, Oregon, USA.

His career was, for all intents and purposes, killed by Howard Hughes. Like his co-star Jane Russell, many producers wanted to borrow Buetel after the infamy and box office success of The Outlaw (1943). Hughes, however, would not allow Buetel to work on projects for the remainder of their exclusive contract. By the early 1950s when Buetel was free to explore his options, Russell was a legitimate star and he was already little more than a footnote in film history. Neither man ever gave details about what motivated Hughes to make such a poor business choice.

Served in the US Navy during WWII.

Buried at Portland Memorial Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, OR, USA.

His name is almost always spelled incorrectly - as "Beutel"-- even (at one time) by a publication as renowned for accuracy as "The New York Times".

Professionally he was an insurance clerk.
