Biography

Moura Budberg was born in Poltava, Russian Empire [now Ukraine]. She was a writer and actress, known for The Sea Gull (1968), Three Sisters (1970) and Romanoff and Juliet (1961). She was married to Johann von Benckendorff and Nikolai Baron von Budberg. She died in November 1974 in Italy.

Mother of Tania Alexander and grandmother of Carolyn Seymour, her half-sister Alexandra is the great grandmother of Nick Clegg.

Born in a Russian noble family, she married a diplomat, had 2 children and was caught in the Russian Revolution. Elegant, she became a spy and lover of R.H. Bruce Lockhart and Maxim Gorky . She had a long relationship with H.G. Wells. Versed in things Russian, she was a consultant on British films and plays about that country.

Her father Ignaty Zakrevsky was Russia Chief Prosecutor in 1894.
