John Bryning(1913-1998)

John Kenneth Bryning was the only child of Charles Edward and Gertrude Bryning. He went to school locally in Fulham and was Head Boy when he left the Sloane School (now defunct). He was involved in school plays and appeared in leading roles at school, receiving praise and good reviews for his Prince Hal and Hamlet. He sought and received a scholarship which enabled him to attend the Royal School of Dramatic Art from which he graduated in 1933 along with such luminaries such as Anthony Quayle and Joan Littlewood. John became a jobbing actor with many roles in repertory theatre, as an actor and latterly as producer. He had some notable roles in film, including playing Titus, the son of the artist Rembrandt in the 1936 film of that name. He mostly remained in the world of live theatre but also in later years took part in radio plays and story reading. He appeared, unbeknownst to him and the two other actors involved, in the Beatles recording of their song I Am A Walrus, when John Lennon put the radio on, which was broadcasting King Lear and recorded and incorporated a short extract.

John Kenneth Bryning married twice. In 1941 he married musician Dulcie Mary Bailey (nee Wall). Divorced. In 1950 he married Mary Amelia Paton
