- George Bruce was born on September 15, 1898 in Danville, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a writer and director, known for The Crowd Roars (1938), South of Pago Pago (1940) and Two Years Before the Mast (1946). He died on September 6, 1974 in Riverside County, California, USA.
- Hollywood screenwriter of action films in the 1930s and '40s, a former pilot. He began writing in the 1920s and became noted for his aerial war stories (as well as crime stories) for pulp fiction magazines. A radio show, "George Bruce's Air Stories of the World War", was also broadcast around 1932.
