Biography

Jill was one of television's top soap stars as nurse Carole Young in ITV's Emergency Ward 10 from 1957 to 1964. She was nineteen when she started in the series and twenty-six when she was unceremoniously dropped from from the cast. Her career rapidly tailed away, leaving her with a little stage work here and there, until ten years later, she was working in the service department of a freezer firm dealing with customer complaints. Four days after she left Ward 10, she married her 1st husband, John Alderton, who had had a minor role as a doctor. They divorced after five years. She found work difficult to get because producers could only see her in the nurse's uniform. She only had a brief run playing the hostess in a public house show called Stars and Garters. She survived acute peritonitis and a near fatal tumor, and, in 1971, married theatre producer Brian Wolfe. She died of cancer on December 5th 1991 aged 54.
