He trained in the early 1970s, as a director-producer at the Netherlands Film Academy.

In the Netherlands, but especially in Suriname, Breeveld was known for his lead role in "Wan Pipel", the first major Surinamese feature film from 1976, directed by filmmaker Pim de la Parra.

In the 1980s, Breeveld was spokesman of Dési Bouterse who became later the eighth president of Suriname.

In recent years, his health had deteriorated due to diabetes. As a result, Breeveld had lost both lower legs and had spent some time in a coma.

In December 2012, he starred, like his brothers Carl, Hans and Clarence and his sister Lucia, in the documentary Wan Famiri of the Dutch documentarian Geertjan Lassche. The family, however, distanced itself from the result. The focus would be on the December murders and Breeveld's friendly relations with main suspect Desi Bouterse, instead of the Breeveld family.

Borger Breeveld was a Surinamese actor and television director.

"Wan Pipel"—the first-ever Surinamese feature film, starring Borger Breeveld—is still broadcast on Surinamese television every year around Independence Day on November 25.

He was honored for a month in 2023 on the NAKS (= a social and cultural organization which promotes Afro-Surinamese culture and expression in Suriname and worldwide) Icons Calendar.

In 2019, he was presented with a TrackDrip (=Surinamese streaming service for music and videos) Achievement Award.
